It's QUITE SMALL compared to the next larger size, the Trodat 4750, which is 1" deep and 1.6" wide. I own both sizes and they're both excellent. However, I have found that I prefer the smaller 4850, as it's less intrusive on received documents. If you want a more noticeable stamp, go for the slightly larger 4750.
Beware the proof, as it doesn't accurately represent the final result. The proof will show the date as thick and somewhat blotchy, but the numbers actually print thin and clean. Additionally, I chose the mid-side of 10 pt Arial bold "RECEIVED" to roughly align with the left and right sides of the date, but the final result was wider (which I actually liked). Since I need another one, this time I'm ordering "RECEIVED" in a non-bold typeface to match the clean date stamp.
